FAQs

How old do you have to be to be an egg donor?

Most fertility professionals require egg donors to be between 21 and 32 years old, in good physical and mental health, and with a healthy reproductive history.

How old do you have to be to be a surrogate?

Surrogates are generally between 21 and 40 years old, must have had at least one successful pregnancy, and maintain good physical and emotional well-being.

How do I get paid if I donate or am a surrogate?

Compensation terms are established in a formal legal contract. Intended parents deposit funds in a secure escrow account to guarantee timely payment.

Can I be involved in the child’s life if I am a donor or surrogate?

That depends on the agreement you and the intended parents reach. Some donors maintain contact; others prefer distance. We encourage clarity and open communication from the start.

How much does Little Raisin charge?

Currently, LittleRaisin operates 100% nonprofit with no fees. Our work is powered by volunteers and community donations.

What happens if a surrogate, egg donor, or sperm donor wants to be involved in the child’s life after birth, but I do not want that (or no longer want that)?

In California, parentage is determined by intent, not biology. This means that the individuals who intended to create and raise the child — as outlined in the pre-birth and post-birth legal agreements — are recognized as the legal parents.

Before any medical or reproductive procedures occur, all parties will sign legal contracts that clearly define roles, responsibilities, and parental rights. These agreements are enforceable under California law to protect everyone involved — especially the child.

If a donor or surrogate later expresses a desire for involvement, those wishes cannot override the original intent-based parentage agreement, unless both parties voluntarily choose to amend the arrangement through their attorneys.

How old do you have to be to be a sperm donor?

Typically between 18 and 39 years old with good overall health. All donors undergo medical and genetic screening.

Can I remain anonymous as an egg or sperm donor?

At LittleRaisin, we currently do not facilitate anonymous donations. Our focus is transparency and relationship-based matching so that everyone understands each other’s intentions, values, and backgrounds.

If you prefer anonymity, please reach out to a fertility clinic for traditional donation programs.

What paperwork is required?

You’ll review and sign legal agreements with your own attorney to ensure you fully understand the terms and responsibilities.
